Global Brigades is an international non-profit that empowers communities to meet their health and economic goals through university volunteers and local teams.

Be the CHANGE in Global Health

Chapters are empowered to participate in 7-day brigades in Honduras, Panama, Ghana, and Guatemala. Volunteers work with local masons and families to construct public health projects to improve the health of families.

Public Health Project Construction

Projects were chosen based on community patient records and evidence-based research to improve health outcomes. Volunteers work with local masons and families to build eco-stoves, latrines, showers, water storage units and deliver drinking water filters. Masons train volunteers on proper construction techniques and safety procedures in addition to tutorial videos that are provided before brigades. Select the Projects tab to learn more.

* During our In-Person brigade reopening phases, public health project implementations are just starting to resume, and construction activities might be delayed in many communities. Our teams on the ground are currently assisting community families in preparation, however, there is a possibility that there might be no construction started by the time of your brigade and therefore, it is not a guaranteed activity.

Sanitation & Hygiene Education

Volunteers provide health education workshops to children and adults to ensure proper use of projects and educate on sanitation practices. Adult workshops focus on the importance, care, and maintenance of the household projects. Children’s workshops teach health promotion and disease prevention methods through a dynamic mix of simple yet highly effective songs, games and interactive activities.

Community Health Action Plan Creation

Community Health Action Plans are a necessary study that focuses on addressing the community’s large public health challenges and proposes potential solutions. Volunteers, alongside local technicians and community members, will collect household data by using the KoboToolbox, an open-source data collection software, analyze the data at hand, and help establish the community’s next steps, based on their main challenges and public health infrastructure demand.
