Global Brigades is an international non-profit that empowers communities to meet their health and economic goals through university volunteers and local teams.

Be the CHANGE in Global Health

Chapters are empowered to participate in 7-9 day brigades to Honduras and Nicaragua. Volunteers work with local masons and families to construct public health projects to improve the health of families.

Assist Community Health Workers

Volunteers work alongside CHWs to perform in-home patient follow-up for the chronically ill. During home visits, the volunteers record and assess patient history records and perform household health infrastructure analysis to resolve preventable diseases. Families are given guidance on how to improve the home health environment.

Public Health Project Construction

Projects were chosen based on community patient records and evidence-based research to improve health outcomes. Volunteers work with local masons and families to build eco-stoves, latrines, concrete floors, showers, and/or water storage units. Masons train volunteers on proper construction techniques and safety procedures in addition to tutorial videos that are provided before brigades. Select the Projects tab to learn more.

Sanitation & Hygiene Education

Volunteers provide health education workshops to children and adults to ensure proper use of projects and educate on sanitation practices. Adult workshops focus on the importance, care, and maintenance of the household projects. Children’s workshops teach health promotion and disease prevention methods through a dynamic mix of simple yet highly effective songs, games and interactive activities.
